ok, it seems quite a number of the people i know doesnt really know about material science and engineering and that such course exist.. let me take this opportunity to briefly define it..ok here we go.. basically its like a guy, who study the science part of things and materials and trying to put that into real good and useful applications..
in a sense, its like a physist, chemist and engineer roll into 1? a physist cos we do handle stuff in the quantum level with regards to kinetics, electrons, molucular and even smaller stuff, crystal arrangement etc etc.. its all in the electrons man.. and yeah, physics physics, the statics and mechanics of structures and materials..
a chemist cos, we do learn about the chemical part of things, like polymer and its synthesis, reactions of stuff like in fuel cells, batteries, if you add hydrogen to oxygen, what do you get?? MRI, the study of chemical bonds, ionic bonds, covalent etc etc..
then engineer, of course, engineering math is one.. and yeah making materials and such for useful application like heart stem, computer chips, biodegradeable plastic, clean energy, water, etc etc.. i dare to say, there is nothing that doesnt need a material engineer.. sit down and think about it.. from the pen you use, to the keyboard you typing on, to the clothes you wear, to the power you get from the plug.. all linked to materials =)
